The Impact of the Tech Committee
A CPT full production is an opportunity for about 70 kids to be in a high-quality stage musical. The efforts of parents in every volunteer committee enable CPT shows to make an impact in every part of production, including the lights, sounds, and effects. In addition to a professional sound contractor, CPT parents and teen assistants work tirelessly to load-in tech, set up, produce the show, and take it all down at strike. It’s immensely satisfying for tech volunteers to see the cast of kids transform on stage as the lights come on and their voices fill the theatre with song.

Preshow Tech Committee
The Tech Committee is a Show Week committee, and parent volunteers aren’t assigned to this committee before the show. The Tech Committee chair begins to work on plans for the show’s lighting ahead of Show Week by reviewing the script carefully, observing the run-through rehearsal, and participating in the cue-to-cue meeting with the Artistic Team and other production committee chairs.
Show Week Tech Committee
The Tech Committee is comprised of a few parent volunteers and several teen assistants who work closely with the show’s tech contractor. The Tech Committee volunteers bring equipment into the theatre, position lights on battens, install additional lights, test lighting cues, run spotlights, and generally care for the lighting and technical needs of the show.Â
