Synopsis

Based on the beloved Disney animated film, and featuring a jazzy, upbeat score, Disney’s The Aristocats KIDS is a non-stop thrill ride of feline fun, complete with unbelievable twists and turns.

In the heart of Paris, a kind and eccentric millionairess wills her entire estate to Duchess, her high-society cat, and her three little kittens. Laughs and adventure ensue as the greedy, bumbling butler pulls off the ultimate catnap caper. Now it’s up to the rough-and-tumble alley cat, Thomas O’Malley, and his band of swingin’ jazz cats to save the day.

Justice and Mercy

Newsies Jr. has themes of courage, community, compassion, and justice. And undergirding all is the conviction that all humans matter. As God’s image bearers and as Christians, these are themes we can celebrate. Jack, Katherine, Davey and the others seek justice for those hurting. They also extend mercy to Pulitzer, in the way they work out a mutually beneficial agreement after the success of the strike.

The newsies aren’t seeking retribution, or revenge; they instead are seeking an outcome that both improves their lives and also bolsters Pulitzer’s business. In this, we see justice and mercy, exercised together for the good of all.

God makes it clear in his Word that it is just and right for the worker to be paid for his labor. Godly business owners treat their employees well and don’t take advantage of the laborer.

For the Scripture says, “You shall not muzzle an ox when it treads out the grain,” and, “The laborer deserves his wages.”

In the midst of the peaceful strike, some bullies unjustly beat Crutchie and take him away to a miserable boys’ home, where he is neglected and mistreated. Although this is terrible for Crutchie, in the end, Katherine is able to use her position and influence to expose transgressions of the boys’ home and free Crutchie.

Katherine desires to use her gifts in journalism, and her connections to influential people like her father, as a force for good. Although she comes from the upper class, Katherine doesn’t consider herself to be better than the struggling newsies or Jack. She believes that people of all classes matter. Katherine wants to humanize the poor of New York so that her readers will see beyond class and understand that human beings of all rank and status have value.

With Katherine’s gift of writing and Jack’s gift of drawing, the two of them are able to get the attention of Governor Roosevelt, who sees the plight of the boys in the boys’ home and closes it.

And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.

Jack, Katherine, Davey, and all of the newsies are carrying the banner for justice, speaking up for the downtrodden. These are the virtues that God requires of His people: act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with God.
