A Perfect Winter Pace
This winter revue makes it easy for families to participate in CPT during the holiday season. Some Enchanted Evening will be presented with minimal sets and costumes. No parent volunteering or committee sign-ups!
A Revue for Teens
Some Enchanted Evening gives every teen a featured moment, performing some of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s most beloved songs — from classics CPT doesn’t have plans to stage in full, like Oklahoma!, South Pacific, and Flower Drum Song, to favorites from shows we’ve done before and may return to someday, like The Sound of Music and Cinderella. It’s a songbook made for our older performers, exploring the timeless theme of falling in love, presented with the same warmth, care, and age-appropriate thoughtfulness you expect from every CPT production.
This stunning collection of Rodgers & Hammerstein compositions places five characters (each played by multiple teens) in a theatrical setting: first “backstage,” where the songs are sung as personal interplay, and then “onstage,” where the songs are presented to an audience. Offering its performers an opportunity to explore timeless songs within their own styles and sensibilities, Some Enchanted Evening delights its audience with a glorious parade of genuine hits. What is love, anyway?
Romantic love. It’s the primary subject of popular music, and the focus of many a Broadway musical. Certainly romantic love isn’t our raison d’etre–the reason for being–but there’s no denying that our Creator made us men and women who yearn to love and be loved.
This collection of songs from classic Rodgers & Hammerstein musicals takes the songs out of their original context and combines them into something entirely new: a light-hearted tale of charm, humor, and tenderness.
Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
God gives us His definition of love in His word, and it is all about orienting our focus away from ourselves and caring for others.
Oscar Hammerstein’s lyrics in Sixteen Going on Seventeen (Reprise) capture the essence of this:
A bell is no bell till you ring it,
A song is no song till you sing it,
And love in your heart wasn’t put there to stay
Love isn’t love till you give it away.
As we lead teens in performing some of Broadway’s very best music and lyrics that we don’t usually get to perform, we’ll keep pointing them to the transcendent truth: God’s design for us is to love others sacrificially, and that applies to romantic love relationships too.
