Parent Committees
Everything You Need to Know about Being a Parent Volunteer
CPT Full Productions depend on a parent volunteer production crew. All cast members must have a parent or designated adult volunteer who contributes a minimum of 25 volunteer hours per child to the preshow production and also one parent must be present and volunteer during show week (also called tech week).
Parents are required to attend three parent meetings throughout the course of a production. The first parent meeting, on the morning of the first Saturday rehearsal, is an important meeting where committee assignments are given. Midway through the session, a second parent meeting is held where show promotional materials are distributed, among other info. Finally, a parent and all-cast meeting is held on Sunday afternoon of show week to kick off the week in the theatre.
For many parents, serving on a production crew with other parents and volunteers is a rewarding experience where they build lasting friendships.Â
Parent Commitment Summary
- Three mandatory parent meetings
- Twenty-five hours mandatory preshow volunteer hours (this can exceed 25 hours, as needed) per cast member
- Show week: one parent present for Load-in Saturday and one parent present for every rehearsal and performance. (See our Show Week page for more info.)
Preshow Parent Committees
Preshow production committees include Creative Team committees and Production Support Committees.
Creative Team committees bring the Director’s vision to life on stage! The Creative Team includes Costumes, Hair & Make-up, Media, Props, and Sets.Â
Production Support committees include Hospitality, Special Activities, and Marketing.
Each production committee is chaired by a CPT parent with show experience. Prior to the launch of a production, the creative committee chairs meet with the directors to hear the vision. When the show is cast, parents are given their committee assignments, and the fun begins!

Show Week Committees
Show week committees include Back-of-house and Front-of-house committees.Â
Back-of-house committees are an important part of the show’s crew. Backstage, Costumes, Greenroom, Hair & Make-up, Hospitality, Media and Historian, Props, and Tech all comprise the crew of a show.
Front-of-house committees include House and Special Activities. These committees are focused on the Patron experience.
When the show is cast, parents receive their show week committee assignments. Unlike preshow committees, these committees assemble at the beginning of show week.
